Mt. Pinatubo
I was there when this volcano erupted, and the experienced that I met during the eruption was so scary, I thought that was the end of the world. Imagine, 12:00 noon on that day, If I still remember right it that was Saturday, man, you cannot imagine that a foot away distance from each other, believe me it was a zero visibility, you can not see each other unless you feel it. It was an unforgettable experienced for us.
On June 15, 1991, If I am not mistaken its the second largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century, which happened in the island of Luzon in the Philippines, from San Marcelino, Zambales where our house is situated about 50 km, and about 90 km from the Manila, imagine about more or less 800 people were killed and more or less 100,000 became homeless following that eruption, which culminated with nine hours of that day. And millions of tons of sulfur dioxide was discharged in the atmosphere, resulting in a decrease in the temperature worldwide which resulting on the global warming over the next few years after the eruption.
Mt. Pinatubo is part of the chain of composite galvanic along the area of Luzon in the west coast of the biggest island of Luzon. The arc of volcanoes is due to the reduction of the Manila trench to the west. Mot. Pinatubo last erupted about 600 years ago. The eruption began in July 1990, when a magnitude of 7.8 earthquake occurred over 100 km northeast of the Zambales region, determined to be a result of the reawakening of the volcano.
Climate
Zambales has two pronounced seasons: dry from October to June, and wet from July to September.
Physical
Zambales lies on the western shores of Luzon island, between the Zambales Mountains and the South China Sea. Its shoreline is very ragged, and features many coves and inlets. The mountain range on the eastern part of the province occupies about 60% of its total land area. Subic Bay, in the southernmost part of the province, provides a natural harbor, and was chosen as the location of an American naval base. The peak of Mount Pinatubo lies on the intersection of the boundaries between Zambales, Pampanga, and Tarlac. This volcano, once considered dormant, erupted violently in 1991 it's Caldera lies on the plains of Botolan, Zambales, a vast portion of the province has acquired "desert like" features since being buried by more than 20 feet (6.1 m) of lahar.
Zambales is a province of the Philippines located in the Central Luzon region. Its capital is Iba. Zambales borders Pangasinan to the north, Tarlac and Pampanga to the east, and Bataan to the south. The province lies between the South China Sea and the Zambales Mountains. With a land area of 3,700 km, Zambales is the second largest among the seven provinces of Central Luzon. It has a population density of 170 people per square kilometer², one of the lowest in the country. The province is noted for its mangoes, which are abundant from January to April.
Zambales is served by the Subic Bay International Airport, which is located in Cubi Point, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, located in Bataan province. Subic Bay Freeport Zone is host to many tourist attractions which include casinos, beach resorts, parks, beach side huts and cottages and historical artifacts.
